Doing Business between the Netherlands and South Africa
A series of scheduled events are planned to promote doing business between the Provence of Limburg in the Netherlands and South Africa. The first event will take place on June 24th in the building of the Maastricht School of Management where companies from the Dutch but also Belgium Limburg region will be present. The main goal is to introduce the seminar 'Doing Business with South Africa' to these companies, and promote the Euregion Meuse Rhine as a unique international business platform of opportunites to South African companies.
South African incoming trade mission to the Euregio Meuse-Rhine region, 11 - 18 October 2010
South African companies are invited to participate in a trade mission to the Euregio Meuse-Rhine region from October 11-18, 2010, with a focus on joining a stand during the BKD business days in the MECC exhibition centre in Maastricht on 12 and 13 October. During this week, OAVM in cooperation with several municipalities and business partners are arranging a trade mission including workshops, company visits, matchmaking in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, and participation in a South African business forum during the BKD Business days. What is the Euregio Meuse-Rhine region? 
The Meuse-Rhine region or the Euregio Maas-Rijn as the Dutch call it is the European region in the border region Belgium, Germany and Netherlands around the cities of Aachen , Liege and Maastricht . The Euregio covers an area of 11,000 km ² and about 3.9 million inhabitants.
Several cities and districts
The Euregio Maas-Rhine consist of:
- The western part of the Cologne administrative district with the cities of Aachen, the district of Düren, Euskirchen and Heinsberg.
- The German-speaking Community of Belgium
- The Walloon province of Liége.
- The Flemish province of Limburg.
- The southern part of the province of Limburg in the Netherlands.
Meet Dutch, Belgium and German companies
The Euregio Maas-Rhine is extremely interesting for the South African export because of the concentration of business activities in a relatively small but busy area where contacts can be made with Dutch, German and Belgium companies. There for a lot of international orientated companies already chose Maastricht to settle down.
3 languages, 5 regions
At the interface of this major commercial and industrial centres of north-western Europe (Paris, Luxembourg, Brussels, the German Ruhr area, Holland’s Randstad and the Flemish cities) the Euregio Meuse Rhine has an extremely fortunate geographic situation. The seaports of Antwerp and Rotterdam are nearby, and the regional airports of Liège and Maastricht-Aachen and the international airports of Düsseldorf, Cologne, Amsterdam and Brussels are in the immediate vicinity. The Euregio Meuse Rhine is also connected to the European inland waterway network for goods transport via the Albert Canal and the Juliana Canal Maas. Connections to the rail network are convenient, in both a north-south and an east-west direction. The European high-speed train TGV stops at Liège and Aachen. The Euregio Meuse Rhine is an interesting market for doing business and for experiencing international trade. With its three languages and five regions, this region offers a great advantage to business, and has been associated with cross-border cooperation. June 2011: Outgoing Trade mission from Limburg companies to South Africa,
In June 2011 an outgoing mission with companies from the Limburg region will visit South Africa with the former Maastricht Mayor Gerd Leers, as delegation leader . Goal is to explore multi-sectoral business opportunities for companies from the Limburg region in South Africa and use the input given by South African companies visiting the Euregio Meuse-Rhine in October 2010 and participating at the event on 24 June 2010.
