Location

Groenland is situated near Stellenbosch in the Western Cape on the Bottelary Road, the M23. The farm forms part of the Bottelary Hills. The Steenkamp family are the owners of this piece of prime viticultural land. They are the third generation who, over the past seventy years, has developed the farm to its present status as a premier red wine producer.

As the Bottelary area is especially suitable for the cultivation of red grape varieties, Kosie Steenkamp has undertaken extensive plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as Pinotage, Merlot and Shiraz.

Groenland wine farm a strikingly beautiful garden, used as a backdrop for the most exotic photographs. Groenland is especially popular for its intimate wedding venue run by Kosie’s wife, Heléne. She is renowned for her traditional `boerekos` (country fare) and caters for 20 – 60 people.

The late Piet Kriel, father of Heléne and previous owner of Groenland, recreated a primitive reservoir into a reception area. In 2003, Kosie Steenkamp transformed this into a modern and stylish tasting room, which has a panoramic view over both Table Mountain and the vineyards. At Groenland wine tasting is free of charge. Times are weekdays 10h00 to 16h00 Saturdays and Public Holidays 10h00 to 13h00.
