The flag of South Limburg will soon wave in Cape Town
Cape Town and Maastricht
That the town of Maastricht where he was born had a lot in common with Cape Town was obvious to Marc Habets, Managing Director of OAVM, when he first visited Cape Town in 2007. Cape Town had already aknowledged Maastricht as André Rieu played very succesfull with his orchestra. But Maastricht and the region of Limburg has more to offer than André Rieu and the European treaty. Local culinary products from South Limburg and the region of Limburg in Belgium receive international respect by the ten thousands of tourists who visit Maastricht and Limburg every year.
More diversity and quality
During the last years the diversity of these products have increased and the quality has improved. There is more and more interest for these products who are excellent of quality. The interest is not limited to the expats who left Maastricht and are keen to order a 'Rommedoe' cheese from Maastricht. A lot of products from Limburg are made with natural ingredients without preservatives and are therefor very popular and healthy.
This autumn to South Africa
This autumn South Africans will have the chance to taste and enjoy the culinary delights from the South of Limburg. In cooperation with local food specialist 'The Glimburger' OAVM is making a selection of the products suitable for export to South Africa. Export to South Africa means a boost for the local food production and economy including the branding of the city of Maastricht and the region of South Limburg. The South African food market is open for foreign high quality
products like champaign, wines, liquers, cheeses and related products. Because of the close ties between South Africa and the Netherlands and the history and the Dutch expats living in Cape Town this town South Africa and more specific Cape Town are looking out for these products.
Love for South Africa and South Limburg
The love for South Africa and South Limburg and his passion for Belgium beers was mainly the reason to connect these region culinary because he recognized the 'burgindian' life style in Cape Town as he was familiar with living in Maastricht. OAVM already imported wine from South Africa and was working on the business concept of the Glimburger so this was according to Marc Habets a logical and tasty step. In addition to culinary products of Limburg in Cape Town more South African products will find their way to the Limburg market.
Also more and more special brewed Belgium beers will find their way to South Africa
